Products & choosing your markers

1. Are you the official stockist of Ohuhu markers in South Africa?

Yes. We are the sole official stockist of genuine Ohuhu Art Markers in South Africa. We import in bulk directly from the manufacturer to our warehouse in Cape Town, so you can shop with confidence knowing you’re getting the authentic product.

2. What’s the difference between Ohuhu alcohol-based and water-based markers?

Alcohol-based markers dry quickly and are smudge-free, making them ideal for detailed, layered artwork such as anime, illustration and sketching. Water-based markers use non-toxic, acid-free, odourless ink and pair with an included watercolour brush pen, allowing you to create gradients, dry-brush effects and fine lines similar to traditional watercolour techniques.

3. Which Ohuhu markers should I buy for my needs?

It depends on what you’re creating and your experience level:

  • Just starting out or colouring on a budget: A smaller alcohol-based set of around 80 to 120 colours gives you a solid range without the bigger price tag and is a great way to learn blending techniques.
  • Anime, illustration or detailed character art: Choose a dual-tip alcohol-based set with a wider colour range, ideally 120 colours or more, plus a colourless blender for smooth shading.
  • Professional or serious hobbyist work: Our largest sets, with around 320 colours, provide the greatest tonal variety and blending flexibility for complex, layered artwork.
  • Watercolour-style effects, children or non-toxic requirements: Choose the water-based range, which pairs with the included watercolour brush pen for gradients and soft washes.
  • Whiteboards, signage or everyday writing: Our double-tip whiteboard markers and gel ink pens are better suited to these uses.

Still not sure? Email shop@ohuhu.co.za with what you’re planning to create and your budget, and we’ll happily recommend the right set.

4. Do you offer gift sets or bundles for beginners?

We stock a range of set sizes and occasional bundle specials that are ideal for gifting, including smaller starter sets that come complete with a case and colourless blender, ready to give as is. Get in touch and we can suggest a suitable gift option based on the recipient’s age and interests.

5. Do the marker sets come with a colourless blender?

Many of our alcohol-based sets include a colourless blender pen, which helps soften harsh lines, create smooth gradients and blend colours seamlessly. Check the individual product description to confirm what is included with each set.

6. Will Ohuhu markers bleed through my paper?

Standard paper may allow bleeding or feathering with alcohol-based ink. We recommend using marker-specific paper, such as our Ohuhu sketchbooks, which have a smooth, flat surface designed to prevent bleeding and feathering and maximise blendability.

7. Do you sell paper or sketchbooks designed for these markers?

Yes. We stock heavyweight, plus-size hardcover sketchbooks specially designed for alcohol-based markers, providing a surface that resists smudging and bleeding for the best results.

8. What is the difference between Honolulu and Honolulu B?

The difference is in the nibs. Honolulu Series markers have brush and chisel nibs, while Honolulu B markers have fine and brush nibs.

9. Which set of alcohol-based markers should I buy first?

First, decide which nib combination you prefer: Honolulu, Honolulu B or Oahu. Then choose a set based on how much you would like to spend.

Stock, authenticity & other supplies

16. How do I know if my Ohuhu markers are genuine?

As the sole official South African stockist, we import directly from the manufacturer. Every marker purchased through ohuhu.co.za is therefore guaranteed to be genuine. Buying from unofficial resellers or overseas listings carries a higher risk of receiving counterfeit products.

17. Do you offer refills or replacement nibs?

We do not currently stock refills. Availability of replacement nibs varies by product line, so please browse our shop or contact our team to check what is available for your marker set.

18. Do you restock sold-out colours or sets, and can I be notified?

Yes, we regularly restock popular items. If a product is marked ‘Waiting for stock’, simply enter your email address on the product page. We’ll notify you as soon as it is back in stock.

19. What does ‘Waiting for stock’ mean?

It means the item is not currently in stock. You are welcome to email shop@ohuhu.co.za if you would like us to let you know the estimated arrival date, or add the item to your wishlist to receive a notification when it is back in stock.

20. Do you stock single markers?

Yes, although we do not stock all 320 colours. Email us with the marker name and number and we’ll check availability. Single markers cost R40 each, excluding the courier fee.

21. What other art supplies do you sell besides markers?

Alongside our marker ranges, we stock acrylic gel metallic pens, gel ink pens, double-tip whiteboard markers, oil and watercolour paint sets, paintbrushes and marker-friendly sketchbooks. Everything you need to build your art kit.
